Frank Napper and his wife Sue wanted a wheelchair accessible weekend break in 2001. They found it difficult to find information on the internet.
Living in Oswestry, a beautiful town in the English county of Shropshire, the Nappers decided to travel north and west to another lovely place, York, where they visited an impressive number of the local sites, including York Minster. Frank and Sue Napper became accessible travel researchers on that weekend in York, and since then, they haven't looked back.
In November 2005, after having carried on their accessible travel research for a few years, they officially formed a group called Disabled Holiday Info. Disabled Holiday Info started with a website where members would post first-hand information about the places they visited. For those without web access, they have produced some brochures, available by mail.
One of the wonderful things about Disabled Holiday Info is that they do all their own research. The information is aimed at the total "tourist experience" - places to stay, things to do, and activities to participate in while travelling.
The website for Disabled Holiday Info is full of pictures and first-hand accounts of accessible travel. Frank's story on York is called, "York as viewed from my wheelchair". It's a beautiful view.
