It is not hard to think up activities that will amuse the young as well as the elders. Start brainstorming to-do ideas with the five basic human senses: hearing, touching, seeing, smelling and tasting.
Be Hands-on Around the Household
Spring cleaning the household does not have to be seen as a tiresome chore that is to be done and gotten over with. Get all the family members involved in and zest up the activity. Put an apron on Daddy and re-arrange the furniture to introduce more space! When old photo albums and family memorabilia are chanced upon in the attic, gather everyone to relive sweet old memories together. Don’t throw out unwanted items in good condition. Invite friends over to a mini garage sale that the children can help out with.
Indulge the Taste Buds
Picnicking is a wholesome activity that is enjoyed by individuals of different ages. Everybody can lend a hand to pitch in with the food preparations, pack bottled drinks, cutlery, and other necessary things that the family needs for a weekend picnic. It would be prudent to arrange contingency plans just in case the weather decides to take a turn for the worst. By all means bring along a portable radio and the family pooch too.
Stage Family Performances or Musicals
Gather everyone to perform a gig for some after dinner entertainment! The performance might be an adaptation of a favourite Broadway play, rock and roll concert or even a stand-up comedy routine. Another option would be to sing and act out a classic musical together as a family. An example of a family favourite would be The Sound of Music, which stars the gracious Julie Andrews.
Seek Out the Hidden Family Treasures
Watch the normally introverted members of the family bloom before the eyes as they are asked to do what they like best! It could be anything from a self-written poetry reading, to a dazzling performance with an electric bass guitar. The rest of the family can sit back, relax and munch on pop corn whilst they enjoy the live entertainment!
Energise a Home with Colours
Re-painting rooms gives it a new look and feel. Plan with parents and siblings what colours to use as the base and what complements that hue. Shop for eco-friendly paint in the hardware stores, or better still; make safe paint and use them for the interior and exterior of the house. Leave some of these safer paint for the little ones for finger painting and let their creativity take over!
As mentioned, whipping up activities to involve the whole family is not hard in the least. Make chores enjoyable. Reward family members with entertainment that is wholesome and fun. Derive ideas from everyday activities and re-ignite the creativity! More fun times lie in store for all.
